COMPETITION IN PUBLIC SPEAKING AND ORATORY SKILLS AT THE FACULTY OF LAW IN NOVI SAD
The eighth competition in public speaking and oratory skills, titled "SPEAK, SO THAT I MAY SEE YOU” (Socrates), was held on Thursday, November 23, 2017, in the study hall of the Faculty of Law in Novi Sad. This year, besides the speeches of our students from the Faculty of Law in Novi Sad, the audience also had the opportunity to hear the speeches prepared by high school graduates coming from Novi Sad gymnasiums, namely: "Isidora Sekulić", "Jovan Jovanović Zmaj" and "Laza Kostic".
The high school graduates competed in the free topic category, while the university students spoke on the topic: "The secret of man's being is not only to live but to have something to live for” - Fyodor Dostoyevsky.
After the contestants presented their speeches, the jury consisting of six members: actresses of the Serbian National Theater- Sanja Mikitišin and Danica Grubački, Vice Dean for Science, Quality and Development at the Faculty of Law in Novi Sad, Prof. Milan Počuča Ph.D., Prof. Emeritus Aleksandar Radovanov Ph.D., Prof. Milorad Bejatović Ph.D. and the President of the jury of the Faculty of Law in Novi Sad, Prof. Marko Carić Ph.D., decided that of all high school graduates the prize should go to Ines Savuljić from the "Laza Kostić" Gymnasium, while the title of the best public speaker with the best oratory skills among the competing university students was awarded to the final-year student Nemanja Čekić. The winner in the high school graduates category won a trip to Milan for two people, while the winner in the category of university students won a 30% discount on the tuition fee for the current year at the Faculty of Law in Novi Sad.
The whole event was enhanced by the wonderful performance of the Family Quartet. After the end of the competition, a cocktail party was organized for all the guests.
According to the organizer of the competition, Assistant professor Marijana Mladenov Ph.D., the goal of this competition is to emphasize the necessity of convincing verbal communication and the importance of excellent oratory skills even in everyday life. The President of the jury, prof. Marko Carić, Ph.D., pointed out that the winners had a very convincing performance and tackled their topics in an excellent way, which helped the jury single them out from other contestants.
