FINALS OF THE COMPETITION "FIMEK REWARDS KNOWLEDGE"

On 13 February 2018, the Faculty of Economics and Engineering Management in Novi Sad organized the finals of the traditional competition in knowledge for all high school graduates from Vojvodina. The competition known as "FIMEK rewards knowledge" took place on 24 January, 2018 at the Faculty of Economics and Engineering Management in Novi Sad.

Of the total number of 45 schools from 21 cities in Vojvodina that took part in the competition, nine semifinalists singled out. Having showed truly outstanding knowledge, four schools got awarded in the finals, namely: Gymnasium "20th October" from Bačka Palanka, Secondary school of technical sciences "9th May" from Bačka Palanka, Gymnasium "Branko Radičević" from Stara Pazova and Secondary School of Economics from Sombor. The Gymnasium "Branko Radičević" from Stara Pazova won the first prize in this competition.

"FIMEK rewards knowledge" has primarily been conceptualized as an affirmation of the exchange of knowledge, socializing, establishing connections between secondary school students, as well as connecting the cities from which the students come. The concept of "FIMEK rewards knowledge" represents a unique blend of quiz and entertainment, meant to strengthen competitive and team spirit, as well as numerous other abilities and skills such as: creativity, innovation, critical attitude and student initiative. Our mission is that high school graduates, as future academic citizens, demonstrate their knowledge even before they officially become university students, and that they get adequately rewarded for it. Therefore, none of the schools that qualified for the finals have finished the competition empty-handed. In other words, all our finalists were awarded for the demonstrated knowledge.

Finalists and their supporters were first welcomed by Prof. Marijana Carić Ph.D., President of the Council of the University Business Academy in Novi Sad, who wished them a lot of success both in the competition and in their further education. Prof. Dragan Soleša Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Engineering Management in Novi Sad, emphasized that the purpose of this and other competitions organized by FIMEK is to motivate young people to invest in their education, and that is why the best high school students get rewarded for the demonstrated knowledge. The regularity of the competition was monitored by a jury consisting of: Prof. Dragan Soleša Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Engineering Management in Novi Sad, Prof. Marijana Carić Ph.D., President of the Council of the University Business Academy, Aleksandar Pajić, Ph.D., Assistant Minister for Secondary Education and Adult Education and Mr. Zdravko Živković, creator of the famous puzzle called "Doris".

All prizes have been carefully chosen so as to reward knowledge, while also giving future university students the incentive for further education. Hence, the winners, high school graduates of Gymnasium "Branko Radičević" from Stara Pazova won a trip to one of the European capitals of their choice, as well as paid scholarship (tuition fee) for all four years of studies at the Faculty of Economics and Engineering Management, or at the Faculty of Law in Novi Sad, again depending on the choice of the winning team. In addition to all that, the winners also received a unique trophy, a 50% discount on 3D printing or scanning services in the 3D Print Studio, the “Popular Linguistics” book series of the publishing house “Prometej” (eng. Prometheus) and a voucher for the new escape room concept called “The Lost Legends’ Box” by Fox in a Box.

The second-ranked team, high school students of the Secondary school of technical sciences "9th May" from Bačka Palanka, in addition to the 50% discount on the tuition fee at FIMEK or the Faculty of Law for Commerce and Judiciary, also received a weekend package for three persons at Andrevlje, a 40% discount on 3D printing or scanning services in the 3D Print Studio, a dinner for three in the coffee shop and restaurant called “Priča”, as well as a month of free swimming pool use at the Sports and Recreational Center "Slana bara". The third prize was a 40% discount on the first year of studies at FIMEK or the Faculty of Law for Commerce and Judiciary, paid lunch for three persons at the bar called "Skeč", a month of free fitness programs of choice in the Martial arts club "Sistem" and a 30% discount on 3D printing or scanning services in the 3D Print Studio. The third prize went to the graduates of the Secondary School of Economics, while the fourth prize was given to the high school graduates of the Gymnasium "20th October "from Bačka Palanka. They received a paid lunch for three in the coffee shop and restaurant “Stefanello”, 12 aerobic or pilates group trainings and a 20% discount on 3D printing or scanning services in the 3D Print Studio.

During the competition, high school graduates competed in general knowledge of popular facts and current affairs, and each school was represented by three chosen students. In the final stage of the competition, the students were given two additional tasks. First the finalists had to solve the brain game called "Doris", whose creator is Dr. Zdravko Živković. Back in 2009, this game was voted the best puzzle by the most prestigious American magazine "Games" for recreational mathematics and logic games, and entered the anthology of the best brain games of all times upon recommendation of the American G4G Foundation. Another additional task in the finals was intended for high school graduates to show their entrepreneurial skills and competencies by solving a business problem which was given by Dr. Aleksandar Pajić, Assistant Minister for Secondary Education and Adult Education. The “Doris” puzzle was quickly solved by the students of the Secondary school for technical sciences "9th May" from Bačka Palanka, who came up with the best idea for solving the given business problem.

A special prize was awarded for the online contest organized on Facebook for all schools that participated in the qualifications stage of the competition. This special prize was awarded to the graduates of Secondary school "Branko Radičević" from Ruma. Another special award given to the winner of the contest on Instagram went to Jelena Silađi, a student of Secondary school "Branko Radičević" from Ruma.

At the end of the competition, Ms. Tamara Krstić, Marketing Director of the Faculty of Economics and Engineering Management in Novi Sad, expressed gratitude to all friends of the Faculty who supported the realization of the competition "FIMEK rewards knowledge".
