
FINAL STAGE OF THE STUDENT COMPETITION FOR THE BEST SHORT MOVIE “FILMić 2018” HOSTED AT UNIVERSITY BUSINESS ACADEMY IN NOVI SAD
The final stage of the student competition for the best short movie “FILMić 2018” and the award giving ceremony was held on 24 May 2018 in the study hall "Prof. Slavko Carić" at University Business Academy in Novi Sad.
The first place in the category of elementary schools was won by the team named "Monstras" from elementary school "Aranj Janoš" from Trešnjevac, who made a movie on the topic "New Beginning". The first place in the category of high schools was won by the “Medvem” team from the Velika Plana Gymnasium, who made a short movie on the topic "PPP".
The festival of short movies made by students, “FILMić 2018”, was organized for the eighth time in the school year 2017/18, in accordance with the Calendar of Competitions of the Ministry of Education for elementary and secondary school students. The festival was initiated together with the Microsoft Partner Program to stimulate learning in the Republic of Serbia. Mr. Petar Viđikant, Counselor in the school administration for the South Bačka District, addressed the audience and greeted the award-winning competitors.
Prof. Marijana Carić Ph.D., President of the Council of the University Business Academy in Novi Sad, opened the final stage of the competition and the award-giving ceremony. The Faculty of Economics and Engineering Management, as part of the University Business Academy in Novi Sad, hosted the whole event this year. On that occasion, prof. Marijana Carić emphasized the importance of this and other similar competitions. "Such initiatives should be encouraged and supported, because these are the most beautiful actions when young people compete and when they get the chance to pinpoint the main problems of today's society using such a creative approach" - said Dr. Marijana Carić. Ass. Prof. Radovan Vladisavljević Ph.D., as the Vice-Dean for Teaching, addressed the winners and their mentors on behalf of the Faculty of Economics and Engineering Management in Novi Sad. Ass. Prof. Predrag Mirković, as the Vice-Dean for Teaching at the Faculty of Law in Novi Sad addressed the audience on behalf of the Faculty he represents.
In this cycle of the student competition for the best short movie “FILMić”, the Director of “ZILLION FILM” and actor - Lazar Ristovski selected three winning teams to participate in this year's film festival entitled “Ravno selo”, as a film festival within the Filming Workshops project. Representative of the film festival “Ravno selo”, Ms. Lora Đurović, addressed the contestants and emphasized their enthusiasm and the quality of works. The aim of the “FILMić” short movie competition is to promote the active role of students in creating media materials and to popularize this type of digital literacy in schools through student-teacher i.e. student-mentor collaboration in project design. Students of elementary and secondary schools, in teams of up to 3 students, participated in the competition by writing scenarios, recording videos and processing the recorded videos.
Prof. Slobodan Popov, Ph.D., on behalf of the Center for Development and Application of Science, Technology and Informatics, as the institution responsible for putting the whole idea into effect, especially emphasized the messages sent by award winning films in response to the offered topics, seen from the student perspective.
In this cycle participants had three sets of topics from which they could choose what they wish to address in their movies:
- Peer violence (the topic deals with the fight against peer violence)
- Being smart while surfing the Internet
- The hero of my city
- I - as an entrepreneur
There were 58 films from elementary and high schools that were reviewed and evaluated by an expert jury. The best 13 works i.e. short films (by primary and secondary school students), as well as their mentors, were awarded by FIMEK - Faculty of Economics and Engineering Management in Novi Sad, as well as the Faculty of Law in Novi Sad. Our two faculties were sponsors and co-organizers of the competition. Ms. Jasmina Pastonjicki, chairman of the jury, spoke about the difficult task that the jury had in the process of selection of the best short films.
Before the final event of FILMić 2018, all short movies were shown during three days at FIMEK, thanks to the fantastic organization by the Center for the Development and Application of Science, Technology and Informatics, with the help of co-organizers and sponsors, namely, the Faculty of Economics and Engineering Management and the Faculty of Law in Novi Sad. The Provincial Secretariat for Education, Regulations, Administration and National Minorities - National Communities provided support to the organization and implementation of the whole project. The achievements were classified into three categories: Informatics and Internet - Advantages and Threats; Violence, Drugs and Friendship; and Ecology and Environmental Protection. During the three days of showing movies, 20 short films (each lasting 5 minutes), addressing different current topics, could be seen. All the films shown have been the achievements and authentic projects of elementary and secondary school students who wished to address some pressing social issues from their own perspective.
