STUDENTS OF THE FACULTY OF LAW IN NOVI SAD ATTEND THE SUMMER SCHOOL ON HUMAN RIGHTS
The first summer school on human rights, organized last week in the village of Ečka, near Zrenjanin, by the Provincial Ombudsman and defender of human rights, Prof. Zoran S. Pavlovic Ph.D., ended with the certificate award ceremony and the speech delivered by Provincial Ombudsman.
Students of the Faculty of Law in Novi Sad attended this summer school, which lasted three days, from August 22 to August 24, and had 20 attendees. The topics of the summer school were focused on the competences of the Ombudsman as the Provincial Protector of Citizens, and the lectures addressed issues of gender and equity, children's rights, the rights of national minorities, instruments of human rights protection, as well as international standards in the process of Serbia's accession to the European Union. The lectures were delivered by renowned experts from the mentioned fields: dr Zorica Mršević, dr Ivana Stefanović, dr Goran Bašić, Prof. Tanja Miščević PhD and Prof. Zoran S. Pavlović PhD. After each lecture, there would usually be a debate on the covered topics, while the topics which are most directly related to the work of the Provincial Ombudsman were also addressed in greater detail in workshops.
From the viewpoint of our students, the summer school has fully met their expectations. The lectures were very informative, the workshops were rated as extremely interesting, while the most interesting areas, according to the student evaluation, were those related to children’s rights and issues of gender and gender equality.
The organization of this summer school on human rights was supported by the OSCE Mission to Serbia, and Mr. John David Clayton, Head of the Democratization Department of the OSCE Mission to Serbia, addressed all participants with a welcome speech.
The Provincial Protector of Citizens - Ombudsman wishes to continue organizing similar schools and courses in the future, in order to spread and improve the culture of human rights among citizens, for which students of the Faculty of Law in Novi Sad have shown great interest.
